Makeup brushes are essential for applying makeup. There are so many brushes out there, cheap, expensive, natural hair, synthetic hair, soft, rough, it can make it difficult to choose and find the right brushes for you.
We spent months perfecting our Essential Brush Set, we wanted to create a set that would have every brush you need to complete your daily makeup looks, we wanted high quality, yet affordable brushes and we feel that we have achieved that with our Essential brushes. Every brush in the set is multi use and synthetic bristle making them suitable for vegans.
So let's have a closer look at the set.
Essential Powder Brush
The Powder Brush, as it's name suggests is for powder. It works great for all powder products for the face. Use it to apply powder foundation, translucent powder, bronzer or even body shimmer. The bristles are extremely soft, so won't irritate your skin, there is nothing worse then pressing in powder and feeling spiky bristles on your skin!
For powder foundation and setting powders, you want to press the product into the skin, not just swipe it across. You will get a much better result by applying this way. With bronzers you want to swipe it over the skin to give you that soft warm glow with no harsh lines.
Essential Angled Blush Brush
We chose to go with an angled blush brush over a standard blush brush shape, so it can be used for not just blush, but for powder contour and bronzing as well. The shape of the brush makes it a perfect fit for under your cheekbone to apply & blend out your contour. If you want a sharper finish to your powder contour, you can pinch the bristles between your fingers to make it thinner and firmer. We recommend for contour starting from the outside of the face first, with the point of the angled brush facing the ear and blending down so you don't end up with majority of product in the centre of your face.
Essential Foundation Brush
There are a lot of different foundation style brushes, we went with the paddle style foundation brush, as it is a classic and can also be used for applying cream contour, primer and cream highlighter (and we are all about multi use brushes!!) With this brush, for foundation you want to apply by pressing it into the skin first, then swiping over to blend. For contour use the tip of the brush to apply, then to blend use a back & forth motion. For cream highlighters you want to pat onto the skin in the areas you want to glow.
Essential Large Eyeshadow Brush
This is the perfect fluffy blending brush! So great for applying eye primer and base shadow up to the brow bone on the eyelid and blending out harsh eyeshadow lines to give you a flawless eye look. We also love using this brush for highlight, when you want a more intense highlight then what the fan brush can do.
Essential Fan Brush
The fan brush is essential for a natural glow, dust highlighter with this brush onto the cheekbones, nose and cupids bow. It gives a more natural finish to highlighters then what a tapered highlight brush or the large eyeshadow brush does. You can also use this brush to dust away fallout under your eyes, it is soft enough to not wipe away any of your foundation underneath.
Essential Eyeshadow Brush
We love this brush!! Perfect for all over the lid shadow, but small enough to buff out the crease or apply a smoked out colour under the eye. It is a great all rounder for the eye area. For lid colour it is best to apply eyeshadow in a patting motion for best colour payoff. This brush is also great for contouring the nose and under your bottom lip (powder contour).
Essential Concealer Brush
The Concealer Brush is a standard sized concealer brush, perfect for blending out under eye concealer or covering blemishes. What we love most about this brush is that it is great for apply cream contour to the nose, applying glitters and shimmers to the eye and creating a defined crease. If you want to apply shimmer eyeshadows wet (for more intense pigment) use this brush! It is perfect for pressing it onto the eye, due to its firm dense bristles.
Essential Angled Liner Brush
Great for all types of eyeliner! Create the perfect wing, smoke out a pencil line, create a more defined under eye look or apply darker eyeshadows along the lash line for a soft and natural look. This brush is also prefect for filling in the brows, with either powder or pomade.
Essential Lip Brush
With the domination of liquid lipsticks, that have an applicator in the tube, maybe you think a lip brush isn't essential. With the applicators in the liquid lipsticks it can sometimes be hard to get the crisp line around the lips, that is where the lip brush comes in. Apply the majority of the liquid lipstick with the applicator, then using the lip brush, get some product from the applicator onto the brush and go around the outside of the lip for definition. If you are confident with the applicator in the liquid lipsticks, you can use the lip brush to apply concealer around the lips to clean up any bleeding or mistakes or just for applying regular lipsticks. It is also small enough and the perfect size to apply highlight to the inner corner of the eye. The lip brush also comes with a lid on the end, so you can easily pop the lid on & throw it into your bag for on the go touch ups.
You can't have flawless brows without a spoolie!!! If you are short on time, rub the spoolie in brow powder and brush through the brows, use it to blend out brow pencil or pomade, you can also use the spoolie to brush through your lashes to unclump mascara!
That is the 10 brushes of our Essential Brush Set. They are all available as the set or individually. We have packaged the set into a book style zip up case. This keeps them free from dust and makes for easy storage or for packing when travelling.
If you are using your brushes for multiple products in the one look, you simply need to brush off any excess colour onto a hand towel, a microfibre towel or you can make a dry brush cleaner from our Beauty Hacks blog. Just run the brush over it, then move onto the next colour.
Keeping your brushes clean and sanitary is extremely important. If you don't keep brushes clean it can cause your skin to breakout, it can contaminate your makeup products and cause your brushes not to perform at their best. We recommend wiping over your brushes with either a antibacterial brush cleaner or with rubbing alcohol after each use, then once a week give them a deep clean by washing with soap and water and letting air dry. Your skin and makeup will thank you for it! As for the handles, it can be daunting using a white brush, because you want them to stay looking fabulous!! The handles clean up very easily, you just need to give them a wipe over with a microfibre cloth and they clean up perfectly! Do not submerge the handles into water when washing the brushes, it can damage the wood and paint. You want to hold the bristles facing downwards when washing, so the water doesn't run inside the ferrule, again potentially causing the water to damage the brush.
