Each month we give you a run down of our favourite products that we have been using. Here are our favourites for January!
1. Wet N Wild Contouring Palette
This is a great affordable contouring palette. We mostly use the the contour shade (because we love shimmery highlighters) but the matte highlight shade is great for if you have oily skin & don't want extra shine on your face. We have been using the lighter shade on our chin and forehead, the areas were we don't want the shine, but still want definition. It also has a contouring and highlighting guide on the back, so if you are unsure about contouring this palette is great for you to get started. The powders blend out beautifully and are very smooth, not chunky and flaky.
TOP TIP: Use an eyeshadow brush to contour the sides of your nose and under your bottom lip.
2. Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick Rodeo Drive
We love this shade! It is a great natural lip shade, a perfect mix of pink and nude. We love to apply a little bit to the lip then blend out with our finger, then topping with gloss for a very soft and subtle lip look when we aren't wearing much makeup, just to add a little more colour to our face. It is a very versatile shade, great for every occasion.
TOP TIP: With your finger tap a little bit onto your cheek to use as a cream blush, it makes a beautiful cheek colour.
3. MUA Eye Primer
If you have issues with eyeshadows creasing or just fading, you need to use a eye primer! Eye primers give your eyeshadows something to cling too and provides a smooth base to build on. They also make the eyeshadows appear more vibrant on the eyes. We like to do our eyebrows first, before starting on the eyes, so you can get that nice clean line under the brows, then dot the eye primer onto the eyelid, 2 or 3 dots is a pretty good amount, start with that and add more if you need. Blend out with the Large Eyeshadow Brush before applying eyeshadow.
TOP TIP: Set the eye primer with a light matte eyeshadow shade to create the perfect base to work on.
4. MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette
This palette is gorgeous! We spoke about the Elysium Palette last month, which we are still loving, but this palette is our next go to! These 12 shades range from a soft peach, to all the shades of browns you could possibly need, to deeper shades in plum, gold and black. The matte shades are great for using as eyebrow powder, just apply to the brows using an Angled Liner Brush, then blend out with a Spoolie.
TOP TIP: To get the best colour pay off from your eyeshadows, apply in a patting motion, swiping motions will give you a wash of colour, which is why this application method looks best in the crease.
5. Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray
We love setting sprays and the Slay All Day Setting Spray is so refreshing!! Setting sprays are great for, obviously setting your makeup in place all day, but they also give a great natural finish to the skin. We have been using the spray prior to applying makeup to help control oil and shine and then again after makeup application to set it all in place.
TOP TIP: Spray a little setting spray onto your eyeshadow brush and use to apply shimmer shadows. It gives a more intense pigment and finish.
6. MUA Blusher Candyfloss
We love this blush, it is a gorgeous mauve shade, with a slight shimmer. It looks very flattering on the skin, giving you a nice flushed look. Blush is making a come back this year, which we are super happy about as it really is the most underrated makeup product!
TOP TIP: Get on the draping trend by applying it darker under the cheekbone and blending upwards to give a lighter colour over the cheekbone.
7. Garbo & Kelly Master Of Illumination Kit
We only got this palette midway through January, but oh.... my.... goodness! when we got it we couldn't put it down! The highlighters in this palette are some of the best we have ever used! They have a buttery soft formula and glide onto the skin beautifully. The matte shades are great for setting your eye area and highlighting under the brow bone. They aren't crazy colours, which we love, as you can easily find a shade that matches your skin tone to leave you looking naturally radiant!
TOP TIPS: For a softer look apply with a Fan Brush, for a more intense glow apply with a Tapered Highlight Brush or our Large Eyeshadow Brush.
