Winter Skincare Tips
Winter is here! The icy winds and chilly drop in temperature can wreak havoc on your skin, causing redness, irritation and dry patches! Not something any of us want.
Here are our tips for keeping your skin looking and feeling it's best during these cold winter months.
AVOID EXTREME TEMPERATURES
As tempting as it is to have a steamy hot shower or to sit in front of the heater or fireplace to warm you up, all that heat can be extremely damaging to your skin, especially on your face. Extreme temperatures, no matter if they are cold or hot can cause a lot of damage to your skin, from broken capillaries and dehydration to impaired barrier functions. Instead try to avoid directly being in front of a heat source and avoid using hot water directly on your face. Always wash your face with lukewarm water to avoid damage.
HYDRATION, HYDRATION, HYDRATION
With the extremes from going from heated indoor areas to freezing cold outside temperatures, plus cold winds, your skin is likely to be a lot more dehydrated then usual. It easy to think from social media that just adding an oil will solve your problems, but oils don't hydrate, you still need a hydrating source to counteract dehydration. If you don't already use a hydrating serum in your routine, try adding one in before your moisturiser.
A great one for winter is La Mav's Hyaluronic Hydra-Max Serum.
Just like your clothes during winter, you can add some more layers in your skincare routine too! If you are just using a moisturiser or an oil in your routine, try adding both. Apply your moisturiser first, then follow with your oil to create a barrier. You can also layer up to 3 serums if you need an extra boost.
DON'T FORGET YOUR LIPS
No one, and I mean no one likes chapped lips! Invest in a quality lip balm to easily apply on it's own or over the top of your lipstick daily to keep your lips protected.
Top Tip: I keep one of my Pixi By Petra Collagen Lip Gloss with my skincare products and treat it as part of my skincare routine.
Once a week reach for a hydrating face mask to give your skin an extra boost through these cold months. There is nothing better than curling up in a cozy blanket with a good book and a face mask on!
Never neglect the skin on your body, it can be easy to forget but it is just as important as your face! Flaky, scaly skin is never in! Start using a Body Oil in your routine straight after stepping out of the shower while your skin is a little damp to lock hydration into the skin.
